Derek Robbie has been involved in racing since birth and is now going into his 19th season behind the wheel. Beginning at an early age, Derek followed his dad all around New England while his dad crewed on several NASCAR Modified teams. At the age of 7, Derek got the chance to get behind the wheel. This was when DDR Motorsports was formed for Derek, alongside his sister Danielle. They went racing at Little T speedway with Quarter Midgets, and throughout his career in quartermidgets, Derek ran in multiple divisions earning many top finishes. Moving forward, DDR Motorsports has owned several different cars for Derek. They have raced Mini Sprints out of Whip City Speedway, Pro 4 modifieds across New England, where the team captured many wins and won a Pro 4 Limited Sportsman championship, and came close to backing it up in the Unlimited Division of Pro4s before moving into a tour-type modified where they compete today.
Today Derek continues his passion for racing beside his dad, where the name DDR Motorsports is built from Doug and Derek Robbie Motorsports. Their quest is ongoing year after year as the team competes in the Milton Cat Modified Racing Series, Monaco Tri-Track Series, and other Open Tour-Type modified events. The vision is to build a team to compete at a top level of modified racing in New England.
Outside of racing Derek has always had a passion for speed. Beginning in High school, then continuing into College, Derek ran long distances for the Cross Country and Track teams. Derek served as a caption for both his high school and college teams. His passion for racing and speed does not stop at the racetrack. Derek's day job is as the Advertising Sales Manager for Speedway Illustrated Magazine, a publication that covers short track racing across the US. His employment takes him all over, visiting various racing part manufacturers and racetracks throughout the country.
